Beach Vacation

Diane Kelly’s Paw Enforcement series came on my radar because of something I read on a blog. Said blog mentioned the fourth book in the series. Me being me, I couldn’t simply start with book four, no, a true dedicated readers starts with the first book in the series, always.

Paw Enforcement introduces readers to Megan Luz, a rookie cop with anger issues working in the Fort Worth area of Texas. Megan’s got herself into a spot of trouble after tasering her offensive partner. As a result Megan finds herself with a new partner…of the canine persuasion. Brigit is a big dog and Megan drives a smart cart and lives in a tiny apartment. How this partnership is going to flourish is anyone’s guess; yet, Brigit’s skill in taking down criminals does seem to impress Megan.

Waking Nightmare is Brant’s first novel in her Mindhunter series. This is a series that revolves around a private company that assists the police with investigations that can’t be handled with local resources. The purpose and set up of this company is a little foggy, but it ultimately has little to do with the larger plot. The main focus of Waking Nightmare is one of those “mindhunters” landing in Savannah to assist the local police with the profile of a serial rapist terrorizing the city.

Abbie Phillips is used to animosity from the local police. She’s a profiler, and as an outside in most investigations she’s not always welcome. However, Abbie is going to do her job and that means delving into the mind of a disturbed individual who is assaulting woman and forcing them to live through their worst nightmares. (more…)

Series Binge: Tracers by Laura Griffin

Sometimes a series finds you and you just can’t stop reading. Laura Griffin’s Tracers series became that for me. Despite some rocky characterizations, Griffin’s series is compelling, fast-paced and grounded in suspense and romance.

So what’s this series all about? While each book in this series can be read independently what binds them all together, other than reappearing characters, is the Delphi Center, a private forensics lab that is used by investigators when they want to get results quickly. Those that work at Delphi are the best-of-the-best, they are the experts in their field. Rather than being boring old scientists, these experts lead very exciting lives, especially when the hunt for the culprit comes a little too close to home. (more…)
